Japan Football National Team
The Japan Under-21 team has come to life since the appointment of coach Takashi Sekizuka in September 2010.
For the former Kawasaki Frontale manager – who has a wealth of experience in the J. League and the AFC Champions League – this is his first work with a national team. He also has a role as assistant to Japan senior team boss Alberto Zaccheroni.
With the final objective of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, the young Japanese players will take part in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, from November 7 to 25 as their first major tournament.
The Under-21 side features up-and-coming players from the J. League who are likely to lead Japan in the London Olympics as well as the Samurai Blue senior side in the future.
Following the Asian Games, the Japan Under-21 team will get ready for the Asian qualifiers, which will start from June next year. Japan has a bye in the first round.
